The Crazy Food Lady

This blog will be like pulling off a band aid. Relatively quick, but a little painful. Okay, who are we kidding? My blogs are never short :p Visited Bonsai Pan Asian Kitchen earlier this evening with my parents, aunt and uncle. The menu seemed to be the standard offerings of the Pan Asian food fad that has gripped Karachi in its clutches as of late.  My father ordered the Tom Yum with chicken, which he really enjoyed. It was reminiscent of Baan Thai which was our first love, but has closed down unfortunately. I ordered the Som Yum papaya salad which was very fresh, with the strong flavors I'm accustomed to. The kicker in this which won me over was the generous, juicy, large serving of prawns. The best part was, the seafood did not smell, and was definitely a highlight of my evening. My aunt ordered the Special Seafood Chowder which she really enjoyed, but to be honest it was corn soup with a whole lot of vegetables and prawns in it. I didn't see any fish. calamari or...

This piece is about a few special places where I never experiment with the menu. I know what I want and I eat it joyfully every single time. Following in no specific order, let's begin: 1. Espresso: I'm not very fond of club sandwiches. They can be too eggy, too messy, too dry. You get the picture. However, Espresso's Smoked Turkey Club Sandwich is one I can order again and again again and have zero complaints. Smokey salty slices of delicious turkey bologna with a concoction of the perfect mix of crunchy, fresh vegetables and sauce is sandwiched between toasted-to-perfection brown bread slices. This sandwich doesn't fall apart, can be eaten warm or cold, and holds its shape perfectly until the last bite. The wedges option with it completes the meal. This Eid was a time when I truly indulged in all sorts of gluttony. But one which stood out was the sweet feast from Fresh Oven Bites. From packaging to presentation and then taste, everything was flawless.  Brought over as an Eid gift (May God continue to bless my family with such wonderful friends), I couldn't deny myself a taste of all three types of brownies in the box. I do believe there were the plain chocolate brownies, Nutella swirl and walnut brownies.  All of them had the same base of chewy, chocolatey, almost fudge-like consistency brownie, which was a delight in itself. Surprisingly, the Nutella swirl brownies weren't unbearably sweet, as I was expecting them to be, but were the perfect combination of chocolate brownie topped with a thickened Nutella layer. The Waffle Cart's Bubble Waffle: When I first heard about this and saw the posts, I thought it was a gimmicky attempt. Same thing, different form. Boy, was I wrong! The texture on these babies is different from your average waffle. These bubble waffles are a doughier consistency, with a crispy outside and fluffier, pancake-type inside.  You can choose from a variety of toppings, sauces and your basic chocolate/vanilla ice cream to choose from. I had recently read a few positive reviews of a new delivery place called This or That. The name is concise, catchy, cute. But was the food itself worth the calories? I intended to find out, because this is a model based on Whole Slice. Delivery-based app, no calls and no hassle of explaining directions. Also, burgers and pizza are a weakness. I'm always on the lookout for a good burger and pizza place, and this promised to be a 2-in-1. This being burgers and that being pizza, I presume. Last week I was craving a good burger and decided to download the app and give the 'this' in This or That a try. App was downloaded as easily as most are, and I logged in. It's never too late to write a good review, and this one is definitely a good one. For all those friends of mine who love dark chocolate, this is a treat. Eberle's Cuisine makes an amazing dark chocolate cake which I give full credit to my friend Lailumah for discovering and recommending I try. So during a hectic work week where I felt I deserved a treat, I decided to take up the offer and give this delicious-sounding dessert a taste test. Was this cake a treat? Oh, yes it was! However, if you don't love dark chocolate don't even try to like it. This is decadently rich dark chocolate cake, almost mousse like in texture and extremely smooth on the palette. It originally came with a raspberry sauce, as is shown in the picture, but is now being served with clotted cream which is the perfectly sweet stark contrast to the bitterness of the excellent quality dark chocolate. If I had a party for dark chocolate lovers, this cake would definitely be my dessert of choice. ...
