Burgers of Karachi-A Listicle

If you're looking for the best burger places in Karachi, look no further than this list of our top 10 burger options, including the  old and new! 1. Mr. Burger Let's start with the burger which introduced burgers to Karachi, good old Mr. Burger. Mr. Big with Cheese, or the classic Mr. Burger itself will not only be a major throwback for those who spent their childhood in Karachi, these burgers still have the same taste! In my opinion, the franchise on Khayaban-e-Rahat is the best one. 2. Oh My Grill (OMG) Your answer to gourmet burgers in Karachi, OMG blew away the burger-eating market when the first outlet was opened a couple of years ago. From the Classic with Aged English Cheddar to the Swiss Mushroom Melt, we can guarantee one burger is enough to satisfy your ravenous hunger. 3. Roasters While this eatery may have many other items on its menu, the burgers at Roasters deserve a special shout out. Massive in size, packed with flavor, these burgers are masterpieces w

Newbury, Round Two

So remember a while ago I waxed eloquent about Newbury and how great it was? Being the cynical little me that I am, I decided to give it another go, and with the same cousin in tow. Our curiosity was piqued. Was the food so great because we were invited and given preferential treatment, or is it always this good? We started off with the Marinated Bruschetta (Which I also featured in my foona Review video for Newbury, btw. Yes, I know. Shameless plug, feel free to watch  here ). The picture I took doesn't do this beauty justice. The bruschetta itself was crisp till the last bite, and held the almost jammy tomato topping very well. The next item I had on my own because my cousin didn't want to risk seafood, but I'm so glad I did! The Salmon Ceviche was served with fried pita on the side and topped with a beautiful balsamic glaze and caviar. That could have been a meal on its own, but of course we overdid our order, and ordered the Bresaola Pizza, which I know sounds very

POMO - New Kid on the Block

POMO Pizzeria, based on the Neapolitan style of Italian pizzas has recently opened its doors to Karachi. As is the case with most new eateries, this one too faced its share of backlash almost as soon as it opened. We read a lot about service issues, food quality, and until now I have heard true accounts of friends with trustable taste buds and worldly palates who have found issues with the food served at POMO. This doesn't in any way mean that I am out to falsely promote an eatery or that they are out to take the eatery down. It just means that taste is a very subjective thing and diverse palates will have diverse opinions. One experience can not be undermined because of another. With that being said, I am relieved my experience was a very good one. Starting from a call to the bill, I had a seamlessly pleasant experience. The day before I was supposed to visit, I called POMO on the number provided online. I asked for a reservation, but was told it's walk-in customers only

Bahria Town, Istanbul Grill; No Trace of Turkey

A few weeks ago, my friend and I went to Bahria Town, Karachi and somehow ended up at Istanbul Grill. We were all hangry and unsure about trying out this particular eatery, because the menu had a lot of Pakistani food mixed in with the Turkish. We would have moved on and tried something else had the owner/manager not persuaded us to stay. To sweeten the deal, he said the food was on the house if we didn't like it (before you come for me, we didn't take him up on that offer and paid fully) and that we could give our honest review online, which is finally here. We went entirely with the suggestions given by the staff, and ordered the following: - Afghani Pulao: Didn't have it but the others said it was okay - Istanbul Boti: I didn't understand what was so Turkish about this. The boti itself reeked of that meaty smell which people, myself included find unpleasant. It was also a little dry and I couldn't eat more than one piece. - Kelash Kabab: This was probabl

Evergreen Love

I recall when Evergreen was first opened in Karachi. It was delivery-based only with the most delicious, healthy sandwiches I had ever eaten. Since the product was a premium one, the prices naturally matched the quality and I preferred not to pay that price. I did review it though, so you can check out my review of Evergreen from 2015  here .  When Evergreen opened its doors as an eatery to Karachi, I fell in love with the variety of food apart from the sandwiches all over again. That love was rekindled with a recent visit and the chance I took with the Salmon Poke Bowl. It was exquisite. There are no other words to describe the taste. Brown rice is layered at the bottom, with purple cabbage, spring onions, thin cucumber slices, coriander and fresh salmon filling the bowl, and all of this topped with japanese mayo and sprinkled with white sesame seeds. The vinaigrette is served in a small ramekin, I suppose to retain the crunch of the vegetables and to avoid being soaked up complete

Baraf Pani - Mind Numbing Sweetness

Visited Baraf Pani, opened by Nauras with a true slush fan, Sadia Safdar. This massive bottle of different flavored slushies is priced at a whopping 280 rupees, and definitely can’t be finished by just one person. It's a small takeaway shop, with bright colors and their slush machines churning out sweet goodness. The different flavors available are orange, summer mix (Strawberry and mango), blueberry, ice cream soda, grape, and a sugar-free option is available as well. We tried the individual offerings first, and thought the grape slush stood out the most. Blueberry was the least preferred as it was just too sweet and had a very strong artificial blueberry flavor. Mix all of these flavors together, and I guarantee your sweet tooth is sorted for a month. Cooling, refreshing, but definitely heavy on the pocket. A brain freezing treat indeed. Sadia and I gave this an 8 out of 10. Overall, the evening was fun, spent with good food and good people. I would recommend visiting both

The Melt - The Shake Shack of Pakistan. Or is it?

Hanging out with my friend, and trying out new food is the perfect way for the devil to prepare for re-entering society. We wanted to see for ourselves whether the establishment deserved the bashing it’s been getting lately, so off we went to The Melt. Happy to report, it’s more of a mountain out of a molehill situation.  The place while emulating the quick service, wavy fries, and smash patty style burger is basically where it stops being Shake Shackish, just to let you guys know, I’m not a fan of Shake Shack, and neither is Sadia. I found this local burger to have more flavor than the international brand. The burgers were made and served in 4 minutes, and that definitely is impressive.  The Melt was recommended, a double patty burger served with raclette cheese, and I forget the name of the second burger, but it was London-something burger, both beef. They do have chicken options and sides. The menu has the prices listed in AED, which I didn’t understand, but unka menu, unki

New Delights at Newbury

When your friend starts consulting for an eatery and invites you to try out their wares, what do you do? You say yaasssss, hold up, I'm on my way! That's exactly what I did when my friend Yasha invited me to Newbury. Just to be clear, I was invited in the capacity of a blogger and a friend who can be trusted to give honest feedback. I did not pay for anything, but this was one of those few times where I enjoyed everything at my table. I brought my cousin along who loves food as much as I do and has a discerning palate. The promise of a good carpaccio is what lured me to Newbury, and it was a promise delivered. Now for the purists, don't freak out when you see it was served on a crispy flatbread, hence the name Carpaccio Crisp. The truffle oil, dressing, and squeeze of the lemon provided atop the fresh, tender carpaccio blended perfectly with the crispy bread everything was settled on. I would skip on the rocket though. The peppery flavor overwhelms the carpaccio. But t
