Evergreen Love

I recall when Evergreen was first opened in Karachi. It was delivery-based only with the most delicious, healthy sandwiches I had ever eaten. Since the product was a premium one, the prices naturally matched the quality and I preferred not to pay that price. I did review it though, so you can check out my review of Evergreen from 2015 here

When Evergreen opened its doors as an eatery to Karachi, I fell in love with the variety of food apart from the sandwiches all over again. That love was rekindled with a recent visit and the chance I took with the Salmon Poke Bowl. It was exquisite. There are no other words to describe the taste. Brown rice is layered at the bottom, with purple cabbage, spring onions, thin cucumber slices, coriander and fresh salmon filling the bowl, and all of this topped with japanese mayo and sprinkled with white sesame seeds. The vinaigrette is served in a small ramekin, I suppose to retain the crunch of the vegetables and to avoid being soaked up completely by the rice. Crunchy, soft, salty, herby, nutty due to the sesame seeds, cut with the sharpness of the spring onions, but simultaneously coated with the Japanese mayo. And of course, the salmon itself was melt-in-the-mouth, fresh from the sea gorgeousness in a bowl. My cousin loved her Greek Burger with sweet potato fries, and we both fell instantly in love with the chocolate chunk cookie. Chunk because there were no chocolate chips. No sir. There were large chunks of dark chocolate filling the cookie in its entirety, and I'm not ashamed to say I stuffed myself silly.

I can't wait to visit Evergreen again!

Golden Dragonization

I’ve always loved desi Chinese food. I’ve been raised on desi Chinese food. The more sweetish side of things, with so many spices that one’s left wondering whether to eat or wipe one’s nose or eat one’s food. But oh, so good.  Thus, I convinced the family to order Golden Dragon tonight, even though they were most reluctant to order from a new place. Since my father and I are both allergic to ajino moto, we requested that no ajino moto be added in our food. Stuck to the basics, since it was my first time ordering. We ordered the hot and sour soup, hot and spicy wontons, crispy beef, hot and spicy chicken, chicken in oyster sauce, and vegetable fried rice. The first thing we got to open was the wontons. All the food was steaming, amazingly hot. Since Abu was in the kitchen with me, the first thing he did was make a face and say, ‘Aye hai! Steamed wontons hamaray matlab k thori hain.’ I took a bite, then forced him to take a bite. When I raised my eyebrows at him in quest...

Almost a Year Later at RAK's Table

Hello darkness, my old friend! While I know that blogposts aren't exactly the preferred social media communication method nowadays, something keeps pulling me back to this baby of mine that I can't seem to let go of, even though last I posted was September 4, 2024.  I also feel like this particular culinary experience of mind deserved a blogpost of its own, it was THAT good! It wasn't just the food, but the company with which I enjoyed each morsel, which came about thanks to my foodie friend Sadia Safdar, who kindly thought of me when Rida Alam Khan, head chef at Yazu and RAK's Table requested a taste-testing of some choice dishes from her yet-to-be-opened restaurant. The panel consisted of OG food lovers, not just bloggers, but people who genuinely have a passion for food and can taste the nuanced notes and secret ingredients in perfectly crafted recipes.  Considering I had never been to Yazu, I was quite impressed by the entrance, very tasteful, just like the food as...

Forty4 Obsessed

What can I say? I love Forty4. And why wouldn’t I when the team, from Aman to the chefs, are willing to go out of their way to recreate an item no longer available on their menu? I had been craving Kampong rice from Forty4 and mentioned it to Aman the last se last time I visited.  When I called to make reservations the other day, Aman was kind enough to call me back because he remembered my craving! He then went to trouble to check with the kitchen and then texted me a confirmation that one of my favorite yummies will be ready for me! And that’s not all. Once I was served my requested dinner, he came by to ask if it was the same as I remembered it. And yes, it was!  I had already been told jasmine rice is no longer stocked, which had originally been used, and I was perfectly happy just the same. I mean, puri zindagi wohi chaawal khaye hain na? Ab ziada hi-fi honay ki zaroorat nahin hai, ‘kay? Although I was tempted to polish off my entire meal, there was an event I w...
