Obsessive Coffee Disorder

OCD is usually known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a mental illness that can take over your life and deter you from doing the most normal daily activities. My addiction to coffee is such that I can't function without inhaling my first cup of coffee. Which obviously translates into Obsessive Coffee Disorder. Now imagine my delight when I found out a coffee shop of the same name was opening at Park Towers (And not at DMC, where it's almost impossible to get in most evenings). Is it any surprise I was on a mission to check this place out? Of course not.

So off I went, with a good friend in tow (Helps that he's good friends with the owner) *cheeky grin* last evening to OCD. Tucked away near Jafferjies on the first floor, OCD is a quaint little place with a cheerful, welcoming interior that's boasting some of the most deliciously decadent desserts I have had recently. Being at OCD, I found it ironic that the food consumed was in reverse. We started off with a dessert called Rochers, which the owner Adil described as a mix between a scone and a macaron. Everyone agreed that due to the delicate structure of the rochers, they really should be bite-sized, so that one can pop them straight into one's mouth without spilling any crumbs and then feeling guilty about letting such a sweet, cloud-soft concoction go to waste. The Rochers are available in coffee, chocolate and classic flavors. I couldn't decide which I liked best.

Then we moved on to a cappuccino for me and a single teabag milk and sugar concoction I very loosely term as 'chai'. Judging from the coffee machine Adil had, I was positive I wouldn't be needing a double espresso shot, which I usually require everywhere else. And boy, was I right! The froth-to-coffee ratio was perfect, the flavor was perfect, and I didn't dare add any sugar to the cappuccino in case I dimmed the flavor of that magic wake-up potion, which at 8:30 p.m. was totally worth staying up till late night for.  Along with the coffee, we were served a Coffee Companion, an airy cake with a honeycomb-like inside with a raspberry jam sandwiched in between. Now I've had a lot of cakes. I mean, a LOT and I have yet to put something that delicious in my mouth. Just thinking about it makes me crave it again.

After this, Adil offered a choice of paninis to us, and my friend decided on the chicken. I being such a good friend, offered to relieve him of half the share. And I'm so glad I did. The panini is the most authentic panini I have had in Karachi. All other paninis pale in comparison to this beauty. The sun dried tomatoes Adil makes at home, and they compliment the cheese and the chicken brilliantly. The wholegrain mustard sauce along with it adds another tangy flavor to the panini.

And of course, because I had eaten the savory, I needed a peanut butter cookie to top it all off. Now you'll be asking me if the extra calories really were worth it. And they were! If you love peanut butter, you'll love this cookie! It's certified to turn you into the Cookie Monster. Omnomnom!

The only downside is the seating is not conducive to leaning back and relaxing after indulging in such a delicious meal because the seats have no backs. They are however, cushy and comfortable to sit on. But if you're a leaner like me, you'll be taking up most of the table leaning forward.

After reading this review, you won't be surprised if I'm already planning another visit, are you? For your viewing pleasure, please find the link of the OCD Facebook page and a picture of the menu (Courtesy the owner). You're aaallll welcome!

Amazing Thai - For the Love of Ramen

Disclaimer: A friend sent me this ramen to try, so I didn't pay for it, but my opinion is as honest as it always is. Okay, I have to admit. I'm a sucker for packaged, unhealthy, and sinfully delicious ramen. So when my friend Omer, husband of the very famous Eman's Cakes (A blog is up on that already, by the way) told me he wanted to send over authentic Thai ramen to me, imported from Thailand, was I going to say no? Of course not! What arrived at my doorstep was this: Of course, there was no sign of English anywhere on this, but packaged ramen aren't that hard to follow through with. So out came the ramen itself into the bowl, along with the shrimp flavored powder, the spicy sauce that makes everything come together and a guesstimate of the water I wanted. What I ended up after nuking it for 2 minutes was this: This was soupy, spicy, not particularly strong in shrimp taste, probably because I added way too much water, but that's how I like it, 2 me

Where Customers Aren't Wanted

So I've been writing reviews and blogs for a long time now. And never have I ever written a negative review for anyone because I firmly believe I don't have the right to hurt anyone's business. I have been so firm in this practice that I have often been labeled as a 'bought blogger', someone who is paid to write positive reviews (I wish! I wouldn't have to work 2 jobs then). This recent experience however, takes the cake. Literally! I have waited a week to write this review just so that I could recall it objectively and without that hot flush of anger that comes when a paying customer is disrespected by a home-based caterer. Now I'll be honest with you, there have of course been situations where the food is so unpalatable that I haven't been able to consume it, but I have spoken directly to the owners of the establishments and left it up to them to decide how to proceed further. There has even been a situation where a home-based baker actually forgot

Steak_CFU: Is the Hype Real?

Every so often, an eatery pops up and creates an immediate uproar with an influx of reviews on social media labeling it as God's gift to mankind. Steak_CFU has recently been just one such place, with a negative review facing passionate backlash of 'Haw hai, never ever is it possible for falana dhimkana cheez to happen at this blessed by the angels eatery, and I've been ten billion times already!' With bookings going on for a month in advance, and the eatery having survived for over 5 months, my curiosity was piqued enough to make my first visit at 6:30 p.m. which is more of a linner (lunch+dinner) time slot I detest unless I'm intermittent fasting for a friend's birthday dinner, and a reservation which I did not make.  As soon as we were served the menu, the charming Khurram Rasheed who is the man behind the food walked in to greet us, (At this point, I have a story to tell which I shall share after my steak experience) and I left the choice of flavor, steak
