Nutrilov Love

Team Nutrilov got in touch with me a little over a week ago asking if I would like to try their products. Since I've been on a health kick anyway, I decided to try them out. Now, these aren't protein bars. They're more appropriately termed as 'healthy snack bars', and if you love sweet, oatey goodness, you're in for a treat.

These bars can be delivered to you anywhere in Karachi. All you have to do is inbox here with your name, address, phone number and of course, your order and Team Nutrilov will get you what you need. Now the packaging, as you can see is very cute. Comes with a handwritten note as well, and my love for those has been mentioned a few times.

I received 2 flavors, peanut butter and raisins (PB&R) and chocolate chip and coconut (CC&C). While it was advised to have them cold, I tried them at room temperature and refrigerated. And somehow, the flavors were better at room temperature for the PB&R, while the CC&C was better refrigerated, probably because I don't like cold peanut butter and love cold chocolate chips.

The flavors of both were amazing. There's the bite of granola bars in both of  them of course, since that's essentially what they are. That's where the similarities end, though.

The PB&R is my favorite, probably because when I eat it I feel like I'm actually eating something healthy and not cheating on my diet. At room temperature, the raisins are soft and squishy, and the flavor of the peanut butter really stands out. Soft, chewy and delicious. When it's cooled, the bar becomes crispier and a little harder to chew, and the flavor of the peanut butter kind of tones down.

The CC&C has a soft spot in my heart, though. It came to my rescue when I woke up with a massive headache a few mornings ago and couldn't find anything I could eat within seconds and then pop a painkiller. This friendly CC&C bar was waiting to be opened and scarfed down in the refrigerator, and that's what I did. It got me an hour's worth of sleep on a weekday, and who doesn't love that? The flavor of this can best be described as granola, chocolate, tiny pockets of salt and the little chew of desiccated coconut, not  really a strong flavor of it. While I would have loved a little more coconutty essence in the CC&C bar, I still caught that crunch of coconut which was oddly satisfying, especially when the bar has been refrigerated.

All in all, these healthy snack bars are the perfect hunger killers. I've had them in between meals when I've been starving and they have helped ward off hunger pangs for a good 2 hours. Taste-wise they're a sweet lover's heaven without the crazy calories, and for someone who's on the go and doesn't want to waste time eating, these are absolutely perfect.

I'm definitely ordering these again, and I suggest you do too!

Meet the Chaza Queen of Karachi and proud owner of Juniper Kitchens, Shama! I had the absolute pleasure of being invited to her home for a lunch that left me in awe of the versatility found in Burmese cuisine. While Shama herself isn't Burmese, her ancestors have had a long-standing history with visiting Burma and adapting their local cuisine into their home. For those of you who don't know, Shama offers catering services and has a devoted clientele for her home-based catering services named Juniper Kitchens. I visited Shama's beautiful home with my friend Lailumah Shah , where we were welcomed with a refreshing hibiscus drink and an assortment of snacks including roasted and salted nuts, dried mango, and spicy tamarind. After a while, the table was laid with an assortment of salads, appetizers and entrees that was too much food for just 2 people. We started with the green tea leaf salad, a spicy mix of crunchy, nutty notes and the subtle fragrance of top tier green tea. I...

Steak_CFU: Is the Hype Real?

Every so often, an eatery pops up and creates an immediate uproar with an influx of reviews on social media labeling it as God's gift to mankind. Steak_CFU has recently been just one such place, with a negative review facing passionate backlash of 'Haw hai, never ever is it possible for falana dhimkana cheez to happen at this blessed by the angels eatery, and I've been ten billion times already!' With bookings going on for a month in advance, and the eatery having survived for over 5 months, my curiosity was piqued enough to make my first visit at 6:30 p.m. which is more of a linner (lunch+dinner) time slot I detest unless I'm intermittent fasting for a friend's birthday dinner, and a reservation which I did not make.  As soon as we were served the menu, the charming Khurram Rasheed who is the man behind the food walked in to greet us, (At this point, I have a story to tell which I shall share after my steak experience) and I left the choice of flavor, steak...

Amazing Thai - For the Love of Ramen

Disclaimer: A friend sent me this ramen to try, so I didn't pay for it, but my opinion is as honest as it always is. Okay, I have to admit. I'm a sucker for packaged, unhealthy, and sinfully delicious ramen. So when my friend Omer, husband of the very famous Eman's Cakes (A blog is up on that already, by the way) told me he wanted to send over authentic Thai ramen to me, imported from Thailand, was I going to say no? Of course not! What arrived at my doorstep was this: Of course, there was no sign of English anywhere on this, but packaged ramen aren't that hard to follow through with. So out came the ramen itself into the bowl, along with the shrimp flavored powder, the spicy sauce that makes everything come together and a guesstimate of the water I wanted. What I ended up after nuking it for 2 minutes was this: This was soupy, spicy, not particularly strong in shrimp taste, probably because I added way too much water, but that's how I like it, 2 me...
